The 10th annual Brooklyn Bookstore Crawl returns to the borough from Saturday, April 20, through Saturday, April 27, taking bookworms on a literary journey by visiting as many of twenty-five participating independent Brooklyn-based bookstores as possible.

Inspired by similar bookstore-run programs in Seattle, Washington, DC, and other metro areas, the crawl celebrates Brooklyn’s spirit of literacy and diversity. Everyone is invited to pick up a “Bookstore Crawl Passport” at one of the participating indie bookstores. Literature enthusiasts can collect signatures or stamps when visiting the bookshops throughout the week. Customers who visit at least five participating stores will receive a 25% off coupon on any purchase at any participating store.

Brooklyn Bookstore Crawl 2025 includes many established bookstores that have served their communities for decades and newly opened shops. Each offers a unique experience for book lovers, adding to Brooklyn’s vibrant and diverse literary culture.

Jessica Stockton-Bagnulo, owner of Greenlight Bookstore and one of the organizers of the Bookstore Crawl, hopes that the Bookstore Crawl allows participants to discover new stores, genres, and neighborhoods.   

“Brooklyn has a truly incredible diversity of bookstores, and they all need the support of the readers who value them.  The families and friend groups having fun trekking across the borough during this week in April are also making it possible for Brooklyn’s literary culture to thrive for years to come,” Stockton-Bagnulo wrote in a statement.

The seven-day event culminates on April 27 with the 12th annual Independent Bookstore Day, a national one-day party celebrating independent bookstores nationwide. Festivities include special exclusive merchandise, giveaways, activities, and more at each store. 

This year, the Center for Fiction at 15 Lafayette Avenue in downtown Brooklyn will host the Bookstore Crawl Afterparty on April 27 from 5 pm-7 pm, where literary aficionados can mingle with fellow book lovers, enjoy music and refreshments, and win additional prizes, including bookstore swag.

This year’s Independent Bookstore Day Ambassador, poet Amanda Gorman, described independent bookstores as “vital parts of our communities and bastions of literature.”

“We must work together to support local booksellers everywhere so that they can continue to thrive and champion books on a local level with the personal touch and human connection that we all need, now more than ever,” Gorman, the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate and who recited the poem “The Hill We Climb” at the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in 2021, wrote in a statement.
