We will never forget those who were lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and New York City continues to recognize them every year.

As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we’ve rounded up some local memorial events that honor the victims and reflect on that day together.

9/11 Day of Service at the Intrepid Museum

Intrepid Museum, Pier 86, W 46th St.

Sept. 8-11

New York Cares will be hosting an annual day of service aboard the Intrepid in honor of 9/11. Over the course of four days, volunteers will pack meals for those who face food insecurity in New York City. 

Weekly Bagpipe Tribute

9/11 Memorial & Museum, 180 Greenwich St.
Sept. 9, 1 p.m. & 1:15 p.m.

Every Wednesday, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum holds a bagpipe tribute to honor those who died on 9/11 as well as those who are sick or died from exposure to toxins as a result of 9/11. The 1 p.m. tribute takes place at the Last Column and the 1:15 p.m. tribute is on the Glade.

FDNY Firehouse Open House

Participating Firehouses and EMS stations
Sept. 10, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Participating firehouses and EMS stations will host open houses on Sept. 10 for members of the public to meet firefighters, EMTs and paramedics. Visitors will also be able to learn the history the Department and their work in NYC.

Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance Candlelight Vigil

The Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance will hold a candlelight vigil honoring First Responders that died on Sept. 11, 2001, offering an evening of remembrance and reflection. All who attend are welcome to light a candle, say a prayer and share memories of those lost.

NYC Still Rising After 25 Years: A 9/11 Charities Comedy Benefit

Madison Square Garden, 4 Penn Plaza
Sept. 10, 7 p.m.

Some of the biggest names in comedy are coming together to raise money for 9/11 charities. This year’s lineup includes Aziz Ansari, Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Ronny Chieng, Pete Davidson, Shane Gillis, Nikki Glaser, Josh Johnson, Cipha Sounds and Jon Stewart, plus some special guests expected to join.

Dawn to Dusk Remembrance – Ten House (Engine 10 / Ladder 10)

FDNY Ten House, 124 Liberty St.
Sept. 11, All day

Throughout the day, the public can go and pay their respects at the FDNY Ten House, located right across from the World Trade Center site. 

FDNY Fire Museum Wreath Laying & Visit

278 Spring St.
Sept. 11, 11:30 a.m.

The FDNY Fire Museum will hold its annual wreath laying ceremony to honor firefighters and first responders on 9/11. Those who visit the museum are encouraged to learn more about the history of the department and its response to the attacks through exhibits and artifacts, including its Ground Zero 360 Remembrance exhibit, which will officially open to the public this year on 9/11.

Battalion 57 Memorial Mass

Cathedral of St. Joseph, 856 Pacific St., Brooklyn
Sept. 11, 12 p.m.

Battalion 57 invites the public to take part in a memorial service for those who died on 9/11. 23 FDNY Ceremonial flags, led by the American flag, will be marched from the site of the World Trade Center to the church prior to the service starting. Those who are interested in marching should arrive at Engine 219/Ladder 105, located at 494 Dean St., no later than 8:30 a.m.

Day of Reflection at Postcards Memorial

North Shore Waterfront Esplanade Park, Bank St., Staten Island
Sept. 11, 2 p.m.

Borough President Vito Fossella invites the public to honor the memory of 9/11 at this event. The ceremony will include a tribute to Staten Islanders who died in the 9/11 attacks as well as first responders who died of 9/11-related illnesses. 

Sounds of Remembrance

PAC NYC, 6 WTC, 251 Fulton St.
Sept. 11, 3:30 p.m.

The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) is hosting a Sounds of Remembrance with the NY Philharmonic and Soldiers’ Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band. The program includes Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Barber, and the world premiere of a new work by Julia Adolphe. Though tickets for in-theater seating are sold out, the group is hosting a live simulcast.

Remembering Judge + Resilience

Firehouse DCTV, 87 Lafayette St.
Sept. 11, 6 p.m.

DCTV will host back-to-back screenings of two FDNY-related shorts: “Remembering Judge,” which follows the life of the first confirmed victim of the 9/11 attacks, FDNY chaplain Mychal Judge; and “Resilience,” which explores departmental responders who survived and are dealing with the aftermath of their efforts.

New York Yankees vs. New York Mets Game

Yankee Stadium, 1 E 161st St., Bronx
Sept. 11, Ceremony at 6:30 p.m., game starts at 7:05 p.m.

Baseball was a tremendous part of the city’s recovery in the weeks after 9/11 — from Mike Piazza’s memorable home run for the Mets in the first game after the attacks in September, to the Yankees’ incredible run to the World Series that October. No matter who you root for, this game (the first of a three-game series) will bring New York baseball fans together to recognize the victims of 9/11. This game will include special tributes honoring the first responders and those lost in the attacks. 

A Night of Remembrance: NYPD Pipes and Drums Memorial Concert

Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden, 4 Penn Plaza
Sept. 12, 7 p.m.

Led by Master of Ceremonies Sid Rosenberg, the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes & Drums group will be joined by groups from Ohio, New Jersey and Massachusetts for a 25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Concert. The night will also feature a performance from Irish tenor Dr. Ronan Tynan.

“Come From Away” Concert

PAC NYC, 6 WTC, 251 Fulton St.
Sept. 13

Former cast members of the musical “Come From Away,” which followed how the people in a Newfoundland town took in thousands of stranded passengers whose flights were diverted on 9/11, will come together for a special concert. A live simulcast will be hosted at the same time as the show.
