Conan O’Brien is a big fan of “Hacks” but says watching the way the hit series portrays the late night talk show circuit causes him to experience PTSD.

The former late night host — who was infamously forced out of his job at “The Tonight Show” when NBC decided to bring predecessor Jay Leno back to the post in 2010 — revealed that watching the latest season of the sitcom stirs up some complicated feelings.

“The show delves into late night this year, which was fascinating for me because there are things that you cite in the show that I’ve lived through,” O’Brien told “Hacks” co-creator Paul W. Downs during an interview on this week’s episode of the SiriusXM podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend.”

“I’ll get a little bit of PTSD from watching it, but it’s also really funny and apt,” he said.

In the fourth season of Max series, star Jean Smart plays an aging Vegas standup comedian making a big comeback on late night TV. The behind-the-scenes aspects of the storyline unfold in a way that hits home for O’Brien.

Though the funnyman rebounded in the years after his unceremonious dismissal from NBC, he said his highly publicized career upheaval “felt impossible” to navigate at the time.

“I’m kind of reliving it a little bit through your show,” he said. “But you guys are doing a very good job of hitting a bunch of the nerves, which means you’re getting it right.”
