“Because, Solidarity,” a one-night only storytelling show at Gallery Particulier, has taken on new urgency since the start of the second Trump administration. 

The latest event in Gallery Particulier’s Collective Tales storytelling series, “Because, Solidarity,” will feature community organizers and everyday New Yorkers sharing stories about collective action as their communities navigate an increasingly tense landscape for immigrants and their loved ones.

“Our mission at Gallery Particulier is to cultivate meaningful connections between artists and the community through accessible art and storytelling,” said Justin Freeman, Executive Director. “‘Because, Solidarity’ reflects our belief in art’s power to unite and inspire, particularly in times when collective strength is most needed.”

Comrade Cav, a celebrated writer and figure in the Brooklyn music scene, will lead the night as the event’s emcee. The audience will be invited to participate in the performances to foster connection and “deepen the understanding of solidarity.” 

Increased U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence in New York has left locals on edge as the threat of detention and deportation has ramped up under the Trump administration. 

The anticipation of increased ICE raids has only heightened with Mayor Eric Adams’ willingness to cooperate with federal officials under certain circumstances. On Jan. 13, the mayor’s office released a memo directing city workers to allow ICE agents to enter city schools, hospitals, and shelters. 

Last week, the administration announced that the city will reopen ICE facilities on the infamous Rikers Island jail complex following a meeting with President Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan. 

“‘Because, Solidarity’ will explore how mutual support has helped people in our community navigate hardship and how we can harness it to confront today’s challenges,” said a spokesperson for Gallery Particulier, in a statement.
