Brooklyn man shot dead at apartment complex; suspect still at large, cops say

Brooklyn detectives are investigating a deadly shooting on Saturday that claimed a man’s life.

Police said the homicide happened at about 5:51 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the Grace Towers apartment building at 2060 Pitkin Ave. in New Lots.

Officers from the 75th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the shooting, found Aarmani Dawkins, 29, of Pennsylvania Avenue, in front of the location with bullet wounds to his neck and abdomen.

EMS rushed Dawkins to Brookdale University Hospital in critical condition — but his condition deteriorated, and he died at the medical facility a short time later.

Police said the homicide happened at about 5:51 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the Grace Towers apartment building at 2060 Pitkin Ave. in New Lots.

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said. As of Sunday morning, law enforcement sources did not have information about a possible motive, or a description of the shooter.

Anyone with information regarding the deadly shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (formerly Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.

Through Oct. 27, according to the most recent CompStat report, the 75th Precinct had seen eight homicides year-to-date, down from 18 reported at the same point in 2023. The command has also seen 45 shootings this year, one more than the 2023 year-to-date total.

Fatal stabbing probe continues

Meanwhile, homicide detectives in Brooklyn are also looking for the culprit who fatally stabbed a man hours before Saturday’s shooting.

The unidentified victim was attacked at 1710 Union St. in Weeksville at about 11:07 a.m. on Nov. 2.

Officers from the 71st Precinct found the man with multiple stab wounds on his body. Responding EMS units pronounced him dead at the scene; police have withheld the victim’s identity, pending family notification.

No arrests have been made in the active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about the attack can contact CrimeStoppers.
