Monday, December 5, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution hosted a panel discussion to explore the evolution and adaptation of nonstate armed actors in response to changing geopolitical and regional environments in Iraq, Libya, Yemen, and Syria. The panel featured Ranj Alaaldin, fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs; Nadwa Al-Dawsari, nonresident fellow at the Middle East Institute; Natasha Hall, senior fellow at CSIS’s Middle East program, and Stephanie T. Williams, nonresident senior fellow at the Center for Middle East Policy. Vanda Felbab-Brown, director of the Initiative of Nonstate Armed Actors, moderated the panel. 

Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a panel discussion about how the U.S. and its allies can build resiliency in light of the transforming space threat environment. The panel will feature Mariel Borowitz, associate professor at the George Institute of Technology’s Sam Nunn School of International Affairs; John J. Klein, faculty at George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute; Victoria Samson, Washington office director for the Secure World Foundation; and Daniel Tenney, vice president of strategy and business development for Lockheed Martin Space. Gen. James E. Cartwright (ret.), board director at the Atlantic Council; and Travis Langster, principal director of space and missile defense policy at the Department of Defense, will provide keynote remarks. The panel will be moderated by Theresa Hitchens, space and Air Force reporter with Breaking Defense; and the panel will be introduced by Clementine G. Starling, director of Forward Defense. 

Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies will host a seminar about the use of propaganda social media content and censorship in China. The seminar will feature Yiqing Xu, assistant professor in Stanford’s department of political science. The seminar will be moderated by Hongbin Li, co-director of Stanford’s Center on China’s Economy and Institutions and a senior fellow at Stanford’s Institute for Economic Policy Research; and Scott Rozelle, the Helen F. Farnsworth senior fellow and co-director of Stanford’s Center on China’s Economy and Institutions. 

Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies will host a discussion about the impact of climate change on malnutrition. The discussion will feature Gillian Caldwell, chief climate officer and deputy assistant administrator of USAID; Jessica Colston, environmental technical lead for GAIN; Rania Dagash-Kamara, deputy regional director of Eastern and South Africa for UNICEF; William Moore, chief executive officer of the Eleanor Crook Foundation; and Caitlin Welsh, director of CSIS’s Global Food Security program.  

Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation about the potential creation of a special tribunal to hold Russian officials accountable for the war against Ukraine. Keynote remarks will be delivered by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The conversation will feature Oleksandra Drik, international cooperation coordinator at the Center for Civil Liberties; Anton Korynevych, the Ukrainian ambassador-at-large; David J. Scheffer, senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations; and Lesia Zaburanna, a member of the Ukrainian parliament. The conversation will be moderated by William B. Taylor, vice president of the U.S. Institute of Peace’s Russian and Europe Center. Closing remarks will be delivered by John E. Herbst, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center. 

Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will host a conversation about the Department of Defense’s annual report on Chinese military and security developments. The conversation will feature Michael Chase, deputy assistant secretary of defense for China at the Department of Defense; Zack Cooper, senior fellow at AEI; and Ely Ratner, assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific security affairs at the Department of Defense. The conversation will be moderated by Mackenzie Eaglen, senior fellow at AEI. 

Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies will host a seminar about how the coronavirus pandemic and global instability create new challenges for affordable access to medicine around the world. The seminar will feature Chirantan Chatterjee, applied microeconomist and visiting fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution; and will be moderated by Jianan Yang, Asia health policy postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University’s Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center. 

Friday, December 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host a discussion about the implications of U.S.-China relations on American innovation. The discussion will feature Abigail Coplin, assistant professor of sociology and science at Vassar College; Ruixue Jia, associate professor of economics at the University of California, San Diego; James Mulvenon, scientific researcher and analyst at Peraton Labs; Molly Roberts, associate professor of political science at the University of California, San Diego; Scott Rozelle, co-director at the Stanford University’s Center on China’s Economy and Institutions; and Deborah Seligsohn, non-resident senior associate and trustee chair in Chinese Business and Economics at CSIS.
