R. Kelly Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison For Brooklyn Sex Trafficking & Racketeering Case

In late September of 2021, the famed R&B singer-songwriter R. Kelly was found guilty on all charges in a sex-trafficking and racketeering case. The guilty verdict took place even after Kelly had been charged with sex crimes previously. Now, Fader has reported that Kelly has finally received his sentence for the September verdict, with the singer to spend 30 years in prison.

According Fader, the case prosecutors’ sentencing letter described Kelly as having a “callous disregard” for his victims, with his crimes and misconduct “fueled by narcissism and a belief that his musical talent absolved him of any need to conform his conduct.” The singer’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, asked for lenience on the basis that Kelly himself had been a victim of child sexual abuse.

Judge Ann Donnelly did not mince words in condemning the crimes of the defendant, stating that “These crimes were calculated and carefully planned and regularly executed for almost 25 years,” going on to explain that “[Kelly] taught them that love is enslavement and violence.”

Even after the three-decade long sentence, Kelly will go on to face trials in the state of Minnesota for allegations of sexual misconduct and child pornography. YouTube has recently removed the YouTube channel of the singer following his initial guilty verdict in September.
