On this day in 1351, 30 French knights challenge an equal number of English swordsmen to a pre-arranged battle at Guillac. The ensuing bloodbath will be called ‘Le Combat des Trente’ or the ‘Combat of the Thirty.’ It’s held up by chroniclers as the epitome of chivalry.
