The Coordinating Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots in the United States (KSORS) suspended its work due to pressure from the American special services. As noted by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the council’s activities do not violate the laws of the United States.
xe2x80x9cOn November 18, the Coordinating Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots in the United States (KSORS) was forced to suspend its public work due to tough and unprecedented pressure from American intelligence services,xe2x80x9d a statement on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
It is noted that these actions violate the legal rights of the Russian diaspora to preserve their national cultural identity.
Zakharova added that for several years the FBI had threatened the members of the KSORS with criminal prosecution for allegedly failing to comply with the American law on foreign agents.
“The legitimate humanitarian activities of the KSORS, carried out on the principles of openness and cooperation, do not violate American law and are not subject to the said law,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, the Russian Embassy in Washington demanded that the United States stop persecuting the Russian diaspora.
