Police from the 108th Precinct in Long Island City responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:20 p.m. reporting a motor vehicle collision on the westbound lanes of the span. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the 29-year-old victim was riding a 2025 Yamaha R7 motorcycle on the Manhattan-bound ramp from Thomson Avenue onto the bridge when he failed to navigate the roadway and struck the left median. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained severe trauma to his body.

EMS rushed him to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. He was later identified as Luis Cadena, of East 70th Street in Bergen Beach.

Traffic was backed up on Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside and Woodside, and motorists were advised to seek alternate routes. The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
