Friday Night Fireworks in Coney IslandThere’s no better way to see summer off than with the last free fireworks show of the summer in Coney Island! Enjoy the food, games, and rides on the boardwalk, then head over to enjoy the spectacle with your loved ones and neighbors.

Free. 9:45-10:15 p.m. Coney Island Boardwalk at West 12th Street in Coney Island. 

Saturday, Aug. 31

Junior CarnivalLittle ones are invited to celebrate Carnival with a parade and other festivities at the Brooklyn Museum! Assemble at Kingston Avenue and St. John’s Place for the fun and musical parade, which will end at the Brooklyn Museum for an afternoon of live music, a back-to-school giveaway, and even the crowning of a Junior King and Queen. 

$12.04. 9 a.m-3 p.m. Parade begins at the corner of Kingston Avenue and St. John’s Place in Crown Heights, celebration continues at the Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway between Washington and Flatbush avenues in Prospect Heights.

Summer Fest at Japan VillageThe annual Summer Fest is back and better than ever at Japan Village! Head to Industry City to enjoy free live performances by dancers and other performers, shop for goodies, and sample some delicious Japanese-inspired treats. There will also be plenty of free swag available plus the chance to play to win a free trip to Japan!

Free to attend. 2-6 p.m. Japan Village at Industry City, 934 3rd Ave. between 35th and 36th streets in Sunset Park. 

“The Fish Queen of the Gowanus Canal”This whacky, all-original musical covers the full history of the Gowanus Canal in songs — all performed by the Fish Queen herself, an “extremophile” creature who carries the memories of everyone whose waste she has ever encountered in the Canal. You’ll laugh, learn, and maybe even cry!

$45. 7 p.m. Gowanus Dredgers Bunker, 2 19th St. near the Gowanus Canal in Gowanus.

Sunday, Sept. 1

Childrens’ Fall Festival at Green Meadows FarmLabor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, and Green Meadows Farm is ready to start the fall! The celebration will include tons of kid-friendly entertainment, including pony rides, bouncy houses, a hayride, and the huge Green Meadows Farm Playground! Animal-lovers can also meet bunnies and farm animals, and there are plenty of picnic tables available to relax and eat at.

$14. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Green Meadows Farm, 3159 Flatbush Ave. off the Belt Parkway in Marine Park. 

Birding in Peace at Green-Wood CemeteryLooking to get outside as the weather cools and enjoy some peace on the busy holiday weekend? Head to Green-Wood Cemetery, where birding expert Rob Jett will lead a quiet early-morning walk through the graveyard and help you discover the many birds that call it home. Fall migration has just begun, so you’re likely to see some rarer species passing through as they head south for the winter as well as the ever-present species you know and love!

$20. 6:30-8 a.m. Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th St. at Fifth Avenue in Sunset Park.
